PATHWAYS TO CONTEMPLATION by LARRY HOROWITZ
December 3, 2021 – March 12, 2022

Opening reception Friday, December 3 from 5 – 8 PM

Experience new works by gallery artist Larry Horowitz during his solo exhibition Pathways to Contemplation.

Horowitz calls himself “an abstract painter hiding behind landscape work.” Larry paints both en plein air and in his studio in oil, watercolor, and pastel, and his paintings reflect a synchronicity with nature that flows from his inner eye.  Larry’s 40-year career began with a coveted and prestigious position as apprentice to American master Wolf Kahn.  Kahn, perhaps the best known and most significant landscape painter of the latter 20th century trained and guided Larry for six years. Under his tutelage, Larry learned to walk the thin line between realism and abstraction, and to appreciate – and in many cases fabricate by hand – the immense variety of materials available to the professional artist.

A New York City native, Larry graduated from the State University of New York in Purchase, NY before beginning his apprenticeship.  He is a prolific artist who summers on Cape Cod and paints magnificent landscapes that sparkle and breathe with such force that the viewer is completely transported to the location that is the subject of Larry’s eye.  Larry also paints at his studio in New York, and the energy and conviction evident in his work is inspired by a holistic approach to the creative process.  He has noted: “when painting a landscape, one needs to be more than an artist. You need to be a meteorologist to paint the sky, a geologist to paint the rocks, and an architect to paint a house.”  Larry was selected as a participant in the Arts-In-Embassies program, and his paintings bring light and joy to the United States Embassies in Finland and Russia.  He has shown in galleries across the United States and in Canada, in both solo and group shows.
